We are a Y1-8 school set in a supportive rural environment in North Canterbury. We seek an enthusiastic and highly collaborative teacher, who is passionate about teaching and learning in the junior school. Our successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and demonstrate highly effective practices towards raising student achievement. Having a background in Structured Literacy would be beneficial. 

This is a full-time, fixed-term position (special project) for the 2023 school year, teaching in a Y1 classroom.

The successful applicant will be NZ registered, display highly effective teaching strategies, and be committed to professional growth.

Support Staff Vacancies 2023

Position 1

West Eyreton School Learning Assistant Fixed term, 24 hours per week, term time only

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate person who is strongly empathetic to work as a Learning Assistant at our school. 
The position will be working with an ORS child who has very high needs for 24 hrs per week on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - 9am - 3pm. (term time only) 

This will be a fixed term position starting Term 1, 2023. 

The successful applicant will be joining a caring, dynamic, supportive community with strong values. 


The successful candidate will:
  • work alongside the classroom teacher and specialist ORS teacher
  • provide individual care for this high needs child
  • have effective organisation and communication skills
  • have skills and experience using assistive technology
  • be able to work as part of a team
Training will be provided by the MOE specialist staff and you will be supported by an ORS Specialist teacher.

Position 2

West Eyreton School Learning Assistant Fixed term, 14 hours per week, term time only

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate person who is strongly empathetic to work as a Learning Assistant at our school. The position will be working with an ORS child who has high needs for 14 hrs per week on Monday - Friday. (term time only) 
This will be a fixed term position starting Term 1, 2023. (It is possible that this role will have an increase in hours for 2023 so we are looking for someone who can offer additional hours if they become available.)

Position 3

West Eyreton School Learning Assistant - Permanent Position
25 hours per week, term time only

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate learning assistant to work alongside our skilled educators to provide targeted support in Literacy and Numeracy.

The position will be Monday - Friday - 25hrs in total. The role will see you working across all levels of the school to support literacy and numeracy interventions. You will be required to work collaboratively with classroom teachers. The role also includes operating and running our school library and co-ordinating activities for tamariki in some afternoon breaks.  This permanent position commences in Term 1, 2023. The successful applicant will be joining a caring, dynamic, supportive community with strong values. 

The successful candidate will:
  • work alongside classroom teachers, SENCO and LSC 
  • have effective organisational and communication skills
  • have skills and experience in supporting literacy and numeracy

Position 4

West Eyreton School - Transition to School Programme Co-ordinator
Permanent, 1.5 hours per week, term time only for Terms 2, 3 & 4

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate learning assistant to run our transition to school programme on Thursdays from 2 - 2.55pm.  The role is for Terms 2, 3 & 4 and part of Term 1. (in negotiation with the successful applicant)

The role will see you working alongside our New Entrant teacher to run our transition to school programme for our 3 & 4 year old learners who will start school at West Eyreton when they turn five. 

The successful applicant will be joining a caring, dynamic, supportive community with strong values. 


The successful candidate will:
  • work alongside the New Entrant classroom teacher to set up, plan and run a learning through play approach transition programme each Thursday afternoon.

Position 5

West Eyreton School Learning Assistant Fixed Term, 9 hours per week
Monday - Thursday, term-time only

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate learning assistant to work alongside our skilled educators to provide targeted support to our ESL learners, (English as a Second Language) and additional Speech and Language support for specified learners. This will make up 4 hours of the position. The remaining 5 hours will involve delivering structured Literacy and Numeracy support to an individual learner based in the senior school.

The successful candidate will:

Position 6

West Eyreton School Learning Assistant 
Engagement, Behaviour & Learning Support Role
Fixed Term, 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, term-time only

We are looking for a dedicated, highly passionate learning assistant to work alongside our skilled educators to provide targeted support. This position is dependent on a specific child attending West Eyreton School. The role involves working 1:1 with a student to support their integration and participation in the classroom. 20 hrs per week, Monday - Friday, this position has potential to increase in hours for 2023 once more funding is allocated.

Position 7 

West Eyreton School - Groundskeeper
Permanent, 6 hours per week

We are looking for a dedicated, highly organised individual with attention to detail to maintain the up-keep of our school grounds.  

The weekly role includes:
  • A small amount of lawn mowing 
  • Maintenance of all gardens around the school
  • Clearing of leaves
  • Spraying & weed management of fence lines etc
  • General exterior tidy of all paved areas outside all buildings
  • Tree maintenance (where appropriate)
